Jared Holt

Jared was born and raised in New Zealand where he completed a Bachelors degree in Classics and a Law Degree with Honors in addition to opera, oratorio and recital commitments. In 2000 Jared won the Mobil Song Quest New Zealand and the Karaviotis Scholarship to undertake three years of vocal studies at the Royal College of Music in London studying with Vera Rozsa. He completed the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the ROH Covent Garden last year.

Roles at the Royal Opera House included The Second Philistine/Samson & Delilah, Wigmaker/Ariadne auf Naxos and Junius/Rape of Lucretia, Marullo/Rigoletto, Silvano/Un Ballo in maschera, Crebillon/La Rondine, the title role in Philip Glass’ Orphee, Happy/Fanciulla del West, Ping/ Turandot, and Schaunard/La Boheme.

He also appeared at the Auckland Festival as Captain/Death of Klinghoffer and made his Opera Australia debut as Marcello (La Boheme) in 2005, which was followed by Belcore/L' elisir d'amore and Yamadori/Madama Butterfly also for Opera Australia.

For the Glyndebourne Festival Jared has performed Demetrius/A Midsummer Night's Dream and Sid in Albert Herring, both in acclaimed Peter Hall productions.

Recitals include: Poulenc Songs with Malcolm Martineau; ‘Dichterliebe’, Schubert and Strauss songs with Simon Lepper for BBC Radio Northern Ireland; participation in the Young Songmakers Almanac Series with Graham Johnson at the Wigmore Hall, London; a recital of English song in Gstaad with Gary Matthewman as part of the Young Songmakers Almanac; a recording with Eugene Asti of Brahms and Duparc songs for the BBC ‘Voices’ series; a BBC broadcast recital of Schubert’s ‘Die Schöne Müllerin’ with Simon Lepper for BBC Wales; a concert with Sir Thomas Allen for the Samling Foundation at St John’s Smith Square in London, and most recently a programme of German and French song repertoire at the Oxford Lieder Festival with Graham Johnson.

In 2004, Jared made his BBC PROMS debut in a concert performance of Dvorak’s ‘Dimitrij’, conducted by Richard Hickox. He has appeared with the Northern Sinfonia in ‘L’enfance du Christ’ and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in Delius’ ‘Margot la Rouge’. He recorded the role of Melot/Tristan und Isolde with Antonio Pappano for EMI Classics and the same role for Warner in a concert performance under the baton of Donald Runnicles.
